Allergic to the sun?

I’ve always seen myself as very sun resistant. I get tanned very easily and manage to stay very long hours in the sun with little sunscreen - or sometimes none, but I’m not so sure about that anymore. :s

Lately, I’ve been tanning some afternoons, and I haven’t noticed any particular consequences of it, besides me getting brown, until yesterday. I saw that I had started developing small red spots on the backside of my legs, so what now? I know that I haven’t been under the sun as much as I have this summer for a really long time (in Malaysia, you simply don’t go out in the sun voluntarily, haha ^^), but have I seriously become allergic to the sun? :O

Is this over for me now?

My hairstyles

For me, hairstyles have always been important and even though I’ve had some pretty awful ones over the years (when I look at some of them I just want to shake myself and scream “OMG, what were you thinking?!”), the hair is one of the first things I look at when I meet a person. Shallow? Yes, maybe a bit. But I can’t help it, my eyes are drawn there automatically. ^^

Anyway, here are some of the hairstyles that I’ve had over the last five years. Laugh, hoist, diss, or whatever, these hairstyles have been a part of my life and therefore they are all special to me. Even though I wouldn’t take some back, haha.

Working girl

In the middle of me chilling in the couch with the Tyra Show on (I watch lots of those shows now when I have time, hehe), I got a unexpected phone call from my sister asking me if I could come help her at work since she had tons of stuff to do. So as the good little sister, who also could smell some cash in the air (and a possibility to pay of my shopping debt to her ^^), went down to help be her little assistant for 1.5 hours. And besides getting a paper cut within the first 5 minutes (ain’t I amazing? -.-), it was pretty fun actually.

Anyways, when we got home we made a super quick and yummilicious egg and shrimp salad before heading out for an “after-dinner-walk” in the mall Gränby Centrum. Funnily, this little walk ended up in a shopping walk. I really wonder how that happened. ;)

Egg and shrimp salad

I bought a night dress (which can also be used as a top) from Lindex and a pair of jeans leggings from H&M

Slightly proud

Oh, I feel so proud of myself for just having spent a couple of hours writing my Extended Essay in economics, although it meant lying in bed the whole morning (except the break I took when eating breakfast in front of Rachael Ray ;P). It is not funny to do school work when it’s summer break, but the feeling afterwards is sooo great. You really feel like you’ve done something good for your own sake (even though that is the least you think of while you are doing it), and in my opinion that should be rewarded. I am going to start by watching The Oprah Show. :D

I don’t have a picture of me today, so I’ll give you an old one (a big smiley one :D)

What happened?

For the past couple of days I’ve been wondering and wondering why my internet connection has become so slow lately, but I haven’t been able to figure it out. From time to time this has happened, but not over a longer period than a couple of hours, so therefore I started to get a bit worried about possible viruses and stuff. However, the answer unexpectedly showed in a pop-up window when I was about to check my email this morning. It said something like :

“Due to the fact that you have exceeded the speed limit you are using for your internet connection, you now have limited access to internet”. (By that time I was literally freaking out - how was I to survive without internet this summer!? But when it continued with…) “You may still surf and send emails as usual” (and I was able to breathe out again).

So now I have to wait until next month until my internet connection is back to normal again. That is the consequence of streaming too much Vampire Diaries, One Tree Hill, and Ugly Betty. :O

An early start

Good morning!

After being awakened by the sun and some birds outside my window (sounds like a “too good to be true awakening huh? :P) about an hour ago, I dare say that my day started off pretty early for a change. Very weird since I haven’t planned doing anything special today. It’s usually when I have something planned, or if I know something will happen, that I wake up early, but not today. Today I am going to do absolutely nothing I have decided. :)

This is what I normally do in the morning ^^

Almost too hot

Despite the burning sun, me and mum decided to bike down to IKEA since we needed to buy some new things for the apartment. Luckily I don’t care if I turn brown anymore (if you’re not Asian I am not asking you to understand this, haha ^^), because if I would have, I would have become very disappointed. Today’s sunshine, or the sunshine that has been grilling Sweden for two weeks now, is simply inescapable…

Something else that is inescapable is the heat that obviously comes with the sunshine. Ok, I love when it’s warm, but since the air conditioners here in Sweden aren’t really equipped for it being this warm - they suck. So the only solution that have kept me alive so far is to drink lots and lots of ice cold water. Very smart of me huh? Haha. ;)

Every time I go to IKEA I end up eating my dinner there, hihi ^^

Shopping in Stockholm

I was so tired from yesterday’s trip to Stockholm that I had no energy to blog, but now when I have recharged my batteries with a couple hours of sleep, I am ready for action again. Hehe.

So as I mentioned, I spent my day in lovely Stockholm where me, mum, and sis shopped, dined, and just enjoyed spending time together - something my family is extraordinary good at. ♥

Anyhow, it was really about time that we went there because I have sucked dry the shopping streets here in Uppsala. ^^ However, I wasn’t the big spender. I only bought two things (see pictures below) compared to my mum who always has to be the worst one. Besides a dress from Esprit, she bought heels from Bianco, a shirt from MQ, and finally a trench coat from Tiger of Sweden which she ”had to have since she is born in the year of the Tiger” - insanely adorable my mum. ;))

After a whole day of walking around I finally found a place to rest...

I love Swedish strawberries

Every summer when we go to Malaysia, I usually miss out on the strawberry season here in Sweden (June-August) which is really sad since I love strawberries. In Malaysia they have strawberries too of course, imported from abroad or yielded in the famous Cameron Highlands. But the strawberries there taste nothing like the ones here in Sweden. It’s sad to ditch something from my beloved Malaysia, but the strawberries there are seriously so tasteless and watery compared to the Swedish ones. :O

And for that reason, Swedish strawberries are nominated as my favorite food this summer - and ice-cream of course! :P

I ♥ strawberries

Been a bad girl

I’ve been a bad girl. Or I did something I shouldn’t have done more likely. But I couldn’t help it. Since my eyes couldn’t let it go, I had to have it. What did I do?

I bought this one.

(The umbrella mami bought for me so it doesn‘t count.)

Picnic on the pier

Maria told me everything she is planning on doing during her three weeks in China. The fact that she will be going to Beijing, Shanghai, and someplace near the coast where her father lives made me even more envious of her trip. I mean great food, cheap shopping, and a completely different culture as a change is all one can ask for. Or at least according to me, haha.

Other than that, we just had a lovely day at one of the many piers by the Fyrisån, eating Swedish strawberries and a drinking couple of ciders. Simply a perfect way to spend an afternoon in. ;)

On the go

Two o´clock I am meeting my friend Maria who I’ve been taking Mandarin classes with for two years now. We haven’t met since…well since school ended in June, so I really wanted to meet her before she leaves for China next week. I am so envious.

Now I better get ready. I have a bunch of dishes to take care of and in addition to that, I am not even dressed yet! Days during summer are really days of laziness, hehe.

See you! ;)

Bye bye bathtub

I just stepped out of the shower, but even though it was the third time I showered in our new shower, it feels so strange. Ever since I was little we’ve always had a bathtub so now when that is gone and replaced by a shower, it feels like I am at someone else’s house. Very weird indeed. :O

Another thing I just realized after showering was that my legs have two different colors! My frequent use of shorts have made them like 80% tanned and 20% white. - And I thought I was the smart one who would avoid things like this when I decided not to use a watch this summer…-.-

Going to Budapest soon ;)

Yesterday I got a very refreshing phone call from my godfather, who’s currently living in Budapest, Hungary, asking me to look up some airline tickets so I can go visit him this summer. Yeay, for that was my response. Because even though the weather here is great and all right now, I am dying to get out of Sweden. Hehe. ^^

Disastrous ice-cream eating

The third and last day of moving has been quite chill, but it was a much needed “chill” though. Sis and I decided to take a break from all the “running-up-and-running-down-the-stairs” by biking down to town for a quick shopping round and some ice-cream. We thought that the ice-cream would be a way for us to just relax and to give ourselves some credit for all of the hard work we’ve been doing for the last couple of days, but that wasn’t really the case. Instead, the ice-cream eating became a “hurry-hurry-eat-eat-eat-before-it-all-melts!” battle between the us and the 35 °C burning sun.

It’s just crazy that it is this hot actually. Everyone has told me that the Swedish summers are really bad since they are all cold and rainy, but this year when I am for once spending the summer here, it’s not. This entire week has been sunny and hot - almost like Malaysia decided to pay me a visit. ^^ But just almost, ok.

Some of the “eat-eat-eat-before-it-melts!” action

But mmmm it was good! :D

Day 2 of moving

Walao, is the only way I can express the exhaustion my body feels right now. Today I had to run up and down the stairs about 20 times (and then I am counting one time as going up and coming down), with bags, clothes, and food. And in addition to this, I’ve been washing tonnes of dishes! So my long and pretty nails that I have been taking such good care of lately, are totally destroyed. ;(

Buhu, now I am going to go drown my sorrows in Smirnoff Lime and an episode of True Blood - since I don’t have my Vampire Diaries anymore. Very sad that too. ;(

Day 1 of moving

Ever since 3 p.m. I’ve been wiping, mopping, carrying, and throwing things while walking back and forth between the barrack and our apartment. And let me just tell you from experience, living on the top floor (3rd in this case) and not having an elevator when you are moving is just ridiculously awful. Unless if you are looking for a great workout.

I wrote yesterday that we would move out from this stupid barrack today, but that’s unfortunately not the case. We are far from finished with everything that is needed to be done before we can move up again, but hopefully we will get most of it done as quick as possible.

Okidoki, now I think I have to rest a bit. I am deadly exhausted. Good night!

Cooked dinner tonight

Look what a wonderful dish I cooked tonight. All by myself.

The recipe is really simple. You buy a packet of Findus Kyckling Panang, put it on a plate, pop it into the microwave for 6 min. Voilá! Ready to eat!

Surreal

Can't believe that six whole weeks have passed so quickly and that we, tomorrow, are allowed to move back up into our apartment. I am so excited to see how it looks, but at the same time not, since I know that there will be a lot of cleaning to do after the workers. To make things worse, it is going to be around 30 °C this weekend so staying inside cleaning doesn't exactly sound very tempting in my eyes...
